It was early 1996 when I first saw her. Me, fresh off a 20 month stint in the young offender correctional system, walking east toward a court mandated AA meeting. Her, sitting in the window of a donut store, glowing with a beauty I never knew existed. I was instantly drawn inside and was pleased to discover that she was sitting with acquaintances of mine. I approached and the following words leaped out of my mouth before I had even considered a move.
"We are going to spend the rest of our lives together."
Somehow, I just knew it.
Here we were over 15 years later, in April of 2011, in a different donut store, this one abandoned along the 115 highway in Kendal, Ontario, reminiscing on that fateful day, and celebrating the gift of true love that we have been blessed with.
Double double

Later that year, just before Christmas, after a lovely dinner out, I took Ninja back to that donut store where we had first met, over 15 years earlier. The table that we met at was covered with a table cloth and a bouquet of roses. She instantly broke down in tears. I calmed her down, then I got down on one knee, expressed my heartfelt love for her, and proposed.
I am, bar none, the luckiest man in the world.

The Building was Demo'd this spring and is now just another vacant lot at the side of the highway. Great meeting story a personal history attachment.
